Clinton-Massie Athletic Director Brian Carey presented a comprehensive report to the Board of Education, highlighting student-athlete achievements, program growth, and the extensive responsibilities required to successfully lead the district’s athletic programs. As outlined in the report, the position serves as the leader, manager, and compliance officer for all athletic programs, ensuring alignment with Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) regulations while prioritizing student-athlete safety and development. Carey detailed the wide-ranging responsibilities required to successfully operate Clinton-Massie Athletics, including: * Student-Athlete Eligibility & Compliance – Monitoring academic eligibility, transfers, and participation requirements while maintaining accurate records for all athletes * Safety & Documentation – Ensuring all physicals, medical forms, and safety protocols such as concussion and cardiac compliance are completed and enforced * Coaching Oversight – Hiring, supervising, and evaluating nearly 90 coaches while ensuring all certifications and training requirements are met * Scheduling & Event Management – Coordinating 63 teams across grades 7–12, including transportation, officials, staffing, and game-day operations * OHSAA Compliance – Enforcing bylaws, monitoring recruiting and participation rules, and maintaining institutional control across all programs * Financial Management – Overseeing budgets, fundraising, ticketing, concessions, sponsorships, and expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency * Facilities & Equipment Oversight – Managing maintenance, upgrades, and long-term planning for all athletic facilities and equipment * Student-Athlete Development – Promoting leadership, character, academic success, and overall well-being * Postseason & Tournament Management – Coordinating logistics, eligibility, and hosting responsibilities for OHSAA events * Community Engagement – Serving as the communication link between school, families, and the community while promoting programs and organizing major events * Game Environment & Safety – Ensuring proper supervision, security coordination, and safe environments at all contests The report emphasized that the Athletic Director’s role extends far beyond game day—requiring daily coordination, compliance oversight, and leadership across all levels of the program. ⸻ Program Impact and Growth Carey also highlighted the overall impact of Clinton-Massie Athletics, which continues to serve as an extension of the classroom—developing responsible, resilient, and community-minded student-athletes. With 63 teams and over 680 roster spots, the program provides significant opportunities for student participation while maintaining a strong focus on academics, character, and life skills. Athletics also play a vital role in the community, serving as the “front porch” of the district—bringing together families, alumni, and local businesses while building pride throughout Falcon Country. ⸻ The presentation reinforced that the success of Clinton-Massie Athletics is built on strong leadership, dedicated coaches, supportive organizations like the Boosters, and meaningful partnerships such as the Mudd Foundation. At its core, the program remains committed to a simple mission: operate with integrity, prioritize students, and prepare young people for success beyond high school.
