Walk-Off Heartbreaker: Falcons Fall 6-5 in Final At-Bat at Hillsboro

By Brian Carey | May 1, 2026 7:40 PM

Clinton-Massie battled until the very end Friday night but came up just short in a 6-5 walk-off loss to Hillsboro on the road. In a game that featured multiple lead changes and strong performances on both sides, the Falcons found themselves tied at five heading into the bottom of the seventh. Hillsboro capitalized in their final at-bat, as Addley Miller delivered a game-winning single to bring home the deciding run. Despite the loss, Clinton-Massie outhit Hillsboro 9-7 and showed resilience throughout. The Falcons struck first in the opening inning when Kalli Jodrey lifted a sacrifice fly to give CM an early 1-0 lead. Hillsboro answered in the second, but Clinton-Massie regained control in the third inning. Annie Baker drove in a run with a single, and Abbie Baker followed with a double to extend the lead to 3-1. The Indians chipped away and tied the game at three in the fourth, then took a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Clinton-Massie responded again in the sixth, as Izzy Penewit came through with a clutch double to put the Falcons back on top, 5-4. In the circle, Madi Brinck delivered a strong performance, striking out 11 hitters over 6.2 innings while allowing just three earned runs. However, Hillsboro’s patience at the plate proved pivotal late, setting up the walk-off opportunity in the seventh. Offensively, Annie Baker led the Falcons with two hits, while Penewit drove in a team-high two RBIs. The Falcons also showed discipline at the plate, drawing five walks, with Leia Kairn reaching twice via the free pass. Jodrey added pressure on the bases with two stolen bases. Hillsboro was led by Rilynn Swisshelm, who went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Chloe Roberts added two hits. The Indians also worked eight walks and played error-free defense to help secure the win. Clinton-Massie will look to bounce back Monday as they return home to take on Goshen.
