The Clinton-Massie Boys Lacrosse program has earned a special honor that recognizes accomplishments extending far beyond wins and losses. The Southern Ohio Lacrosse Officials Association (SOLOA) has selected Clinton-Massie as the recipient of the Ed Shoemaker Sportsmanship Award, an honor voted on by lacrosse officials and presented to a program that exemplifies integrity, respect, fairness, and sportsmanship. The award was created in memory of Ed Shoemaker, a respected lacrosse official who also officiated games at Clinton-Massie. Shoemaker was known for demonstrating integrity, respect, and fairness both on and off the field, and the award bearing his name recognizes programs that continue to uphold those same standards. According to SOLOA, Clinton-Massie has consistently demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship while earning the respect of officials, coaches, players, and members of the greater lacrosse community. Recognized for Excellence On and Off the Field The recognition highlights the way Clinton-Massie athletes conduct themselves during competition. The Falcons have demonstrated respect for officials, opponents, and teammates while competing with integrity and maintaining composure under pressure. The program has also prioritized fair play and teamwork, providing a positive example for other athletes. That commitment extends beyond competition. SOLOA recognized Clinton-Massie's efforts to promote a culture of respect and collaboration throughout the lacrosse community, as well as the program's emphasis on honesty and accountability. The Falcons were also commended for setting an example for younger athletes and encouraging them to view sportsmanship as an important part of their development. A Culture Built at Clinton-Massie The honor is especially meaningful for a Clinton-Massie lacrosse program that has continued to grow under the leadership of Coach Dave. While building the sport at Clinton-Massie, Coach Dave and the program have placed an emphasis not only on developing lacrosse players, but also on creating a team culture centered around character, teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship. The impact of that culture was reflected in the voting, as SOLOA officials unanimously recognized Clinton-Massie's contributions to the spirit of the game and the qualities Ed Shoemaker championed throughout his life. The award will officially be presented to Clinton-Massie at a USL meeting in September. For the Falcons, the recognition serves as an important reminder that success in athletics is measured by much more than the final score. As stated in the award's tribute, the true measure of success in lacrosse—and in life—is found not only in victories, but also in the respect and integrity with which the game is played. Congratulations to the Clinton-Massie Boys Lacrosse players and coaches on an outstanding and well-deserved honor.
